The Companionable Silence of a Shared Café Table

A shared table at the back of café
Week day fast coffee drinkers zoom in and out at the front
Like bees visiting a flower for caffeinated nectar

At the shared table
On laptops and journals
A quiet focus
The slow sip of cups

Comfortable
Quiet
Company

A fragile fleeting sanctuary from the everyday busyness.

And then obliviates join the table.

Sigh.

This poem is dedicated to my fellow introverts and the crews at Hikari and Tori’s in Melbourne for allowing this space for me to enjoy so often.
